33 Advertisers Drop Glenn Beck

Glenn Beck, back from vacation, will find himself in need of new sponsorship after several big name companies have decided not to advertise on his show following his comments about President Obama being a racist.

According to an AP article appearing on the wire, "A total of 33 Fox advertisers, including Walmart, CVS Caremark, Clorox and Sprint, directed that their commercials not air on Beck's show, according to the companies and ColorofChange.org, a group that promotes political action among blacks and launched a campaign to get advertisers to abandon him. That's more than a dozen more than were identified a week ago.

While it's unclear what effect, if any, this will ultimately have on Fox and Beck, it is already making advertisers skittish about hawking their wares within the most opinionated cable TV shows.

The Clorox Co., a former Beck advertiser, now says that "we do not want to be associated with inflammatory speech used by either liberal or conservative talk show hosts." The maker of bleach and household cleaners said in a statement that is has decided not to advertise on political talk shows."

Way to go Glenn! Sometimes, the only message these radicals like Glenn Beck understand, is being a little bit lighter in the pocketbook. This also may force the network to reign in TV hosts who choose not to use their words wisely.

  1. You can add Geico and Travelocity to that list. Aside from his racist accusation; he continues to cling to the "birther" nonsense. You know it's bad when Coulter dismisses it. Sadly, this moron continues to rank highly which tells us a little about whose listening to his shows. Nice article Brent.

  2. Actually - while they may not be advertising in Beck's time slot - they are still advertising on Fox. Fox has stated they have not lost any revenue as a result of these companies not advertising. Additionally, most of these companies actually do not purchase any time on Beck's show anyway - so - nothing gained, nothing lost.

Lastly, this past week, Glenn has had average nightly ratings of 3.3 million viewers, at 5:00pm. More than all of Maddow, Olberman, and Larry King combined each night.

This fake boycott didn't harm anybody other than those advertisers - especially since they sided with the left-wing ColorofChange.org. BTW - did anybody happen to mention that the Green Jobs Czar - Van Jones - you know the one - the self professed communist - is actually one of the founders and board members of that organization? So - now we have government employees directing private organizations to stifle free speech.

Glad to see you approve of such tactics. mheh.

Hey, Connor - apparently you obviously do not watch or listen to Glenn Beck - he has denounced the birthers himself and thinks it's nonsense.

  3. Well said, BoBo! Glenn's viewers increase daily because he speaks the truth and actually asks intelligent reasonable questions that we would all like an answer to from this administration.

  4. Glenn's viewers increase solely due to the controversy he causes. Someone once said; any publicity is good publicity. However, the negative publicity surrounding this guy has alienated moderates and us leftwingers- as you call us Bobo. Of course I am sure you agree with all his seperatist, right wing talk- as long as he is slamming Obama.

  5. Well, Van Jones went hunting for Glenn Beck and Jones has gone down in flames--big time. Thank God for Beck exposing this Marxist/Racist in our midst. The MSM avoided Van Jones and his radical views for months.

  6. These "high minded" advertisers just moved to another slot on Fox, Beck's rating shot up, Van Jones quit, and new advertisers signed up thanks to all the free PR.

  7. Hey Bobo,

"Beck said, 'I have to tell you, the – I mean, first of all, the birther thing, what are you going to do. Even if it was true, what, are you going to take him out of office? You can't do that.'" www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=105898 Does that sound like "denouncing" to you? That was dated 9/20/09 by the way. It sounds more like defeatism to me-in other words; coming to the realization that you sound like an ass.
